Typhoons Sept 23rd - Oct 7th 2008? 2008/7/17 22:45
Hello,

We are going to Japan: Osaka, Hiroshima (and maybe a trip to Miyajima), Hakone , Kyoto, Tokyo September 23rd to October 7th. Are we likely to be affected by any typhoons?

That's typhoon season but nobody can tell you if you'll get one or not; the usual course for typhoons is for them to make landfall further southwest, Kyushu or so, and the central Honshu area gets lots of rain and sometimes high winds. But it all depends. Occasionally Narita Airport gets shut down.

It would have to be a very strong typhoon to shut down Narita airport, but heavy rain can slow down Shinkansen trains... so during your stay if you hear of any typhoon news, check the news often and prepare to change your long distance travel plans (for example traveling back to Tokyo a day earlier or something like that so that you will be closer to your departing airort) if needed. That is all you can do to prepare anyway :)

Thank you for your answers! Anything else we should know about typhoons...? How long does it take for it to get by?
