Hi im planning to visit Sounkyo from Asahikawa in mid-Aug.But since we have a limited time, and we do not intend to drive, we had to take the Dohouku Bus:
Asahikawa 9.15 - Sounkyo 11.05
and leave to return:
Sounkyo 15.40 - Asahikawa 17.30
Will we have enough time to explore Sounkyo in such a tight schedule? We plan to catch the Ropeway up to Mt.Kuro-dake and also to cycle around to the 2 famous Waterfalls.
I also read that the good cycling track has been closed due to bad road conditions, I wonder if they have reopened them? (we are not frequent bikers)

You could theoretically go up and down the ropeway in less than 90 minutes without any hiking, see the waterfalls in one hour, and could then make your bus back.
I could be wrong, but when I visited Sounkyo 4 years ago, I got the feeling that the bike street will never be re-opened.
