Climbing Mt. Fuji between Sept. 13 - 20 2008/8/10 00:06
Hi,
Anybody climbing between these days? I will be in Japan from Sept 12-20. Is it safe to climb alone during these days? What I know that it's no longer climbing season but still ok to climb though. Thank you.

Yes, it is still safe, although huts start to close, and public transportation to the 5th Station is infrequent:

thanks Uji,

Do i need a guide on climbing Mt. Fuji or I can manage on my own? I thinking of climbing there on Sept 13-14 since it's a weekend I am hopeful that some people would be climbing and I could tag along.
Thanks again.

Before considering climbing outside of the season, you definitely have to do some basic research first. Here is a good starting point:

It will be very cold. I suggest bringing lots of winter clothing. I was up there on Jul 26th and I almost froze my arse off. The nights can be very unforgiving (for the record, I had 4 layers on)
