Where to stay, in Tokyo 2008/8/12 15:16
Can anyone recommend a convenient and budget place that you have been and stay in Tokyo? Thanks

Toyoko Inn 2008/8/12 18:28
Depending on what you want to do in Tokyo, these are the two locations I stay at:

This location is a few minutes walk from Ostuka JR station on the Yamanote line.

Centrally located near to the Tokyo Dome and LaQua Amusement Park. The hotel is near four subway lines, one exit is across the street from the hotel.

Toyoko Inn also have many other locations in Tokyo, including Ikebukuro and Shinjuku.

Homeikan 2008/8/12 18:39
We stayed at the Homeikan Ryokan last year and it was fine. Close to several stations and because it was near the university there were plenty of cheap places to eat. It is tucked away from the main streets so that while it is a little tricky to find at first , it is very quiet for an inner city location.See this website-

I'm going too in Nov 2008/8/14 01:06
I've never been to Japan and it'll be my first time. My question is, for most small hotels/ryokan, the single room do not have their own toilet right? meaning I have to go at a shared toilet.

bath 2008/8/14 02:56
Some do have bath, but it will cost more

At Sawanoya, they have a couple of rooms with bath, but if you are going in Nov, you will probably have to book them now

I'm not sure how long you want to stay.

Well, I stayed at Yoshida House and you can pay per night or per month. I stayed a month, and it was nice, but it's in Nerima, so it's not in central Tokyo.

I also stayed at a few different OakHouse locations, and they were all nice. The company is very professional and easy to work with.

Budget Hotel 2008/8/14 11:14
I came across K's Hostel that also comes with private room, not sure if it's ensuite. But the location is in Asakusa, seems very central: http://kshouse.jp/tokyo-e/facilities/index.html
Or Sakura Hotel at Ikebukuro is also good. This is just minutes away from subway station with major supermarkets nearby so meals not a problem. http://www.sakura-hotel-ikebukuro.com/hotel_rates.php

Staying for 2 weeks 2008/8/14 12:02
It'll be my first time in Japan. I'll be there for 2 weeks. Is that too long to be in Tokyo? Is Toyoko Inn in Shinjuku (kabukicho) a good location to stay ? It sounds to be centrally located to most other cities for me to visit. Let me know.

The Kabukicho location itself isn't very central, there are other business hotels in Shinjuku that are more central.
