Budget on Japan Guide

My husband and I will be in Japan for 6 weeks in Oct-Nov - we have paid for JR pass, accomodation and are trying to calculate how much per day we will need for sightseeing & food. I have looked at the budget page on Japan guide but am unsure whether the costs include accomodation and travel. We are looking at perhaps spending $150 Aust. in totals ($75 per person) per day for food and sightseeing - would this be enough for comfortable, middle of the road travel? We don't want to eat just cup noodles but also won't be splurging on upmarket restaurants daily either!!
