Pass in Hokkaido and Tokyo 2008/8/14 23:21
Hi there, appreciate if anyone can give me suggestion.

We will go to Hokkaido for 4 days and Tokyo for 6 days.

Hokkaido trip, stay in Sapporo. we will go to Otaru, Niseko, Furano, Ashikawa, Noboretsu.
= 4 days are enough to visit those city?
= What train ticket pass should we purchase? Does JR Pass cover all in Hokkaido?

While in Tokyo, we plan to be in town for 4 days, and another 2 days to go to Niko (on new year's eve). Is it worth to buy JR Pass?

Any activity on Nikko on New Year's eve? Onsen open or close?

Thanks.

7 days if 2008/8/16 11:18
It's well worth getting a 7 day pass provided that you include your Nikko trip in that 7 days.
This gives you the option of using shinkansen to get there.
If that's not how you want to set it up get a 4 day Hokkaido pass and use Tobu Rwy to get to Nikko.

Hokkaido pass and JR Railway Pass 2008/8/16 12:08
Thanks.
For 4 days in Hokkaido, 4 days in Tokyo and 2 days in Nikko:
= better take 4days Hokkaido Pass (covered Otaru, Ashikawa and Furano) + 7days JR Pass ?
= or take 4days Hokkaido Pass + Suica card for using in Tokyo + Tobu Rwy to get to Nikko

Which one is cheaper?

That's nice plan! 2008/8/16 14:12
Nikko is one of the most esciting place I recomend.
Takeng Tobu Rwy is much cheeper to get Nikko.
You can't miss also the waterfalls not only Tosho-Gu Temple in Nikko.

I'm a Japanese studying English in Tokyo, so sorry if this message dosen't meke sense.

Should I also get the JR pass if I intend to take the shinkansen from Nagoya to Tokyo and include a visit to Nikko as well? Thanks

itinerary hokkaido and tokyo 2008/8/17 18:25
Thanks RodW.

While in Hokkaido, we will get 4 days Hokkaido Pass. This will cover trip: Sapporo - Ashikawa - Nakafurano - Furano - Noboribetsu - Otaru.
Question: Does this Hokkaido Pass cover Chitose Airport to Sapporo St?

While in Tokyo (for 6 days), we'll get Suica Card. And buy Tobu Rwy, to go to Nikko. We'll skip JR Pass.
