ATM card broke

I'm on vacation in Tokyo and the magnetic strip on my ATM card no longer works, so I can't use ATM's. The card's still good but I was wondering if there was a place I can buy yen. I can only speak a little Japanese to boot.

Most banks will exchange foreign currency for yen cash, as well as some central department stores (Ginza, Shinjuku). If you keep your request very simple- show them your foreign currency and say something like "can I change to yen?" the staff at banks should have no trouble understanding what you want.
