Hello, You can use a 7 days JR Rail Pass when you change Day 3 and Day 4 and start the Rail Pass on day 4 with a kodoma shinkansen ride to Odawara from there Hakone Free Pass. Last day is Day 10 from Osaka to Tokyo .

I can't see any major problems with this itinerary with regard to timing, although I would make the following changes: If you had not already considered it, get a 7 day JR Rail Pass and activate it on day 5 for trip to Kyoto. You will need to purchase this before arriving in Japan: http://www.japanrailpass.net/Day 5/6: I would do Kinkakuji and Arashiyama on the same day (probably day 5) as these are both on the west side of Kyoto, Kiyomizudera, Fushimi Inari and Gion all being in the east. Day 7: I would suggest maybe a day trip to Nara. Maybe even transfer to Osaka on day 7 and do the day trip to Nara from there on day 8 or 9. Day 8/9: Arrive in Osaka and spend the day exploring Osaka. You will waste valuable time going to Osaka, checking into your hotel and then going to Himeji. As there are in the same direction, do Kobe and Himeji on day 9. Don't stay in the same area as the first part of your trip, try another area. Ostuka is a nice area, check out the Toyoko Inn #2 location: http://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00139/index.htmlOr Ikebukuro: http://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00007/index.htmlhttp://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00096/index.htmlYou might even consider staying at the Korakuen location and visiting the gardens then instead of day 4: http://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00081/index.htmlDay 11: Last day of your pass, use it to get to Narita Airport on N'EX.
