May I ask from what currency you want to exchange into Japanese Yen? If it's USD, Euro or Chinese Yuan, I don't think you'll have difficulty in finding an exchange. (Most major hotels have exchage service at the reception.)

If you're from Singapore, change currency at Changi Airport, never change in Japan. The rate from SGD to JPY is very poor.

Or use an ATM card.

You can change money at many Post Offices in Japan, the exchange rate is better than at airports or banks and there is no commission.

As I mentioned earlier, changing foreign currencies in Japan isn't recommended at all besides USD and EUR.

Japanese Yen (100):
In Singapore: Sell; 1.3070, Buy; 1.2570
In Japan (NRT): Sell 1.3972, 1.2015

I dont know what is true, but 2008/8/23 20:16
I always change currency at ATM, not at a currency store or some other STAFFED place.

If they hire a staff, they must pay their salary,
= need to make more revenue, = need to take higher commission or offer disadvantagous rate.

IN JAPAN, I feel ATM always offers better rates and less commission than other way to change currency in Japan.

Am I wrong?

Some corrections:

Japanese Yen (100) from and to SGD:
In Singapore: Sell; 1.3070, Buy; 1.2570
In Japan (NRT): Sell 1.3972, Buy; 1.2015

I agree, you can get good rates from ATM card use.

I often read Brits can get a Nationwide debit card, which allows you to withdraw money abroad without commision, and the rates are quite nice.

Credit Card 2008/8/23 23:55
Thanks everyone. Guess I will check if there is any charges for using our ATM cards in Japan.

Is credit card accepted in most eating places & shops?
