Bessho / Kusatsu Onsen

In Feb we will be travelling from Nozawa Onsen to Tokyo over a few days (2 - 3) and are planning on visiting Kusatsu Onsen. Bessho Onsen seems to be just a short detour on the way to Kusatsu. Is Bessho worth a visit? Any special features? We are trying not to pack in too many stops (like we usually do) so we have time to enjoy each place more.

It is a nice, small town with a long history, but I do not find it particularly outstanding. There are dozens of hot spring towns like that in Japan.
It depends on whether you have the time for an additional stop.

Nikko in Winter

Thanks for the feedback Uji. Also thinking about visiting Nikko but appreciate that winter is not the best time to be there. What do you think? We wil start visiting Japan in the warmer months at some point but the lure of the ski fields keeps us coming in winter.

Yes, I agree that winter is not the best season to visit Nikko, but it can have its appeals, too, especially if you like snow.
