ChiChibu Yomatsuri festival 2008/9/5 23:58
Hi I will be in Tokyo from Nov 29, to Dec 4.
Read about Chichibu Yomatsuri night festival of lantern floats and thinking to go on Dec 3. Is it worth going to ?I am travelling alone and don;t speak Japaneses. Am worried that it will be so crowded may not be able to see anything.
Also worried that trains will be packed and can;t get seat to Chichibu and back to Tokyo.
Have explored booking a hotel room in Chichibu for 1 nite on Dec 3 but can;t find any place on English webpages.
Can;t afford to miss my internat flight on Dec 4 from Narita airport.
Advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I recommend to return to Tokyo (or even Narita) after the festival rather than staying in Chichibu. The festivities are over by around 10pm:

Trains back to Tokyo ? 2008/9/6 23:16
Many thanks Uju.
I will take train back same day then - will it be difficult to get a seat on the train at 10pm back to Tokyo ?
For the festival, where is best place to position myself to see floats and follow procession at nite?

Yes, I imagine these trains to be extremely crowded.

I had problems getting into the area around the City Hall/Otabisho because it was too crowded. I rather enjoyed watching the parade along the long, major street through town. See here:
