Hokkaido - Sapporo Snow Festival

Any suggestions for an itinerary for a 7 day trip to Hokkaido. I plan to be there during the Sapporo Snow Festival

It fully depends on your interests, but I personally would combine the snow festival with a few days of skiing and a trip to Abashiri to see the floating ice:

Abashiri is certainly an unusual side trip. Did it this year. A special train runs on some days for the ice season. It is called Okhotsk no Kaze; The sea ice express I think is the rough translation. Great train with big windows, front seats recommended.

Train gets there early afternoon. Time to look around and get tickets for next days cruise. Another train trip along the coast can be taken in the afternoon on a special train one way to Shiretokoshari. Get a regular train back to Abashiri.

The Route Inn Hotel sign is in the background. We stayed at another hotel..Central. Just a few hundred metres from the station but well worth a taxi if you have cases.
