i am trying to locate a good friend i lost contact with in yokohama. is there like a white pages directory or something?

Start with the last known contact and work your way from there.
Most people in Japan aren't listed in phone books.

big map book?

Last time I was in Japan, the library had a giant book (about 3'x2' & ~400 pages) that was a really detailed map of the entire city. It listed the full names of the home owners in every house. I used it to locate someone while I was there.
Does anyone know what the name of that book would have possibly been, and if it is available online? It was so long ago I cannot remember the name of it...
