Overnight? 2008/9/18 11:06
Do you mean the overnight train? There are ten trains per week that make that run in roughly 16 hours:

Many Thanks 2008/9/18 13:49
....But I was looking at the cheapest (i.e. local train/26 hour job). Cash strapped at present and have to get up there asap over this coming w'end.I have also realized that the Pass I want to use (I.e. the H H Pass) is only available in the holidays.Any suggestions welcome and Ta very much for the TT.

You can look it up with the following tool:

Disable air, shinkansen and limited express trains, except when looking up the Hamanasu express between Sapporo and Aomori.

I might suggest you to fly cheaply this time.

Or you can purchase a bus-ferry combo ticket to Tokyo for 9,900 yen. It's a one day trip, but much more comfortable than the local train trip with heaps of transfers en route.
