Can anyone tell if the below schedule is doable or too tight? Day one: Kyoto Day two: Takayama Day three: Hakone Day four: Nikko Day five: Tokyo What is the best way to go to Hakone from Takayama?
Thank you

It is doable, but too tight to be enjoyable.
What is the best way to go to Hakone from Takayama?
By limited express and shinkansen via Nagoya.

I suggest you to choose only a single region for 5 day trip to Japan, either Tokyo and surroundings, or Kyoto/Osaka and surroundings.

If you are going to drop one place, I would recommend dropping Takayama (because of travel time involved).
Are you flying in from Kansai International Airport then flying out of Narita? That is what I am assuming. Then, Kyoto - Hakone - Tokyo, then a day trip to Nikko would be doable.
If you are coming in from Narita and flying out of Narita, I might even recommend just staying in the Tokyo area, meaning, Tokyo, Nikko, Kamakura, etc., instead of spending inordinate time on the trains.

I actually have seven days not five days so can I still keep Shirakawa? I can also skip Nikko. Does Shirakawa-Hakone-Tokyo make sense? Thanks!!!
