hi,
i will be leaving for kyoto this sunday and have yet to buy any rail pass.
can some1 advise me whether i shld get the JR PASS 7days ?
my plan:
19-kansai-kyoto
19 -23 1 day kyoto, 1 day trip to osaka, 1 day trip to himeji/kobe, 1 day to nara (all nites stay will be at kyoto)
23-28 tokyo (be staying in shinjuku).
my understanding so far is that the JR pass can be used for all of the above.
but to get around kyoto, i'm best of with the 2day bus pass.

you didn't mention whether you will fly out of Japan from Narita or Kansai. If you are travelling from Kyoto to Tokyo and back then the 7 day JR Rail Pass would be worthwile. If you only use it for one way then you do not need buy this pass. 2 day JR West Rail Pass Kansai Area (4,000 Yen) would be good for Kansai airport to Kyoto by Haruka and the next day go to Kobe/Himeji. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_03.html
