Hello,
I heard that in Tokyo and other popular places in Japan, you have to reserve your spot in a gaijinhouse/guesthouse super early. Is this true or can I just show up and sign up on the spot? Like how early would I have to book my spot? I plan on being in Japan this coming summer.

Super early is not required unless you are looking for a spot in a super popular location.
But waiting until arriving in Japan is not a good idea, either.
I recommend to make reservations a month or a couple of weeks or so in advance. Earlier, unless you have a reason to procrastinate.
