where to get Hakone free pass? 2008/11/8 22:03
Is it possible to buy Hakone free pass from Kyoto or Hiroshima?

It might be possible to do so through a travel agent, but why would you want to do that? It is much easier to just buy it when you get there.

Try this website: http://www.odakyu.jp/english/freepass/index.html

This one: http://www.hakonenavi.jp/english/freepass/index.html

or this one: http://www.sotetsu.co.jp/en/train/ticket/hakone.html

All of the above sites sell the tickets pretty much anywhere between Tokyo and Odawara. We purchased ours in Odawara.

where to get Hakone free pass? 2008/11/9 21:53
My plan is to travel from Hiroshima to Hakone on 7Dec, then onward to Tokyo on 8 Dec. As my 7day JR pass will expire on 7Dec, I am hoping that if I can buy the Hakone free pass (2days) for 7-8Dec, then I can travel back to Shinjuku on the Free Pass on 8Dec. I read that I can only get the Hakone Free Pass from Shinjuku.

Well you can buy it at any station in the Odakyu system HOWEVER, you are coming form Hiroshima to Odawara, and not starting in Tokyo. So you are right in the sense that the roundtrip part from Shinjuku isn't sold, but you dont need it, you are only making a one way trip to Tokyo instead of a roundtrip.

The Hakone Free Pass wouldn't really be economical, you're making a one way trip from Hakone to Shinjuku rather then a roundtrip. It is probably cheaper if you just paid single fares the day you are visiting Hakone.

Rather to be clearer.

There are two versions (mainly).
One from Shinjuku and one from Odawara.

Since you are coming form Hiroshima, the Shinkansen stops at Odawara. You can purchase the Hakone Free Pass (Odawara version) which doesn't include the one way fare back to Shinjuku.

If you were in Shinjuku, you could purchase the Hakone Free Pass which includes a roundtrip back to Shinjuku. You really don't need this one, because you're aren't going back to Shinjuku (you never started in Shinjuku to begin with), but rather you're making a one way trip TO Shinjuku from Hakone, which you can just buy a regular one way ticket for.

Do you know how much is the cost of the single trip from Hakone to Shinjuku?
Is there a website that I can find competitive rates for hotels in Tokyo?

Hakone - Shinjuku 2008/11/10 22:40
liu,
With the JR Railpass go Hiroshima - ShinOsaka - change to a hikari shinkansen at 08.13 h ( and every two hours till 18.13 h ) plus 20.33 h direct to Odawara or other hikari with change enroute to a kodama shinkansen. In Odawara go from shinkansen tracks to well sign posted Odakyu line and buy the Hakone Free Pass to/from Odawara. ( Yen 3900 ). The next day still valid till Odawara. Continue on Odakyu line at Yen 850 for a local train to Shinjuku ( takes 100 minutes ). Romance Car ( Express ) Yen 1700 and faster.
What in yen is competitve hotel rate for you?

Shiodome to Hakone 2008/12/30 11:58
From the discussion above, if I am heading from Shiodome to Hakone (stay overnight) then make an onward journey to Nagoya the following day, then I should also get a single ticket from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto; then purchase a Odawara version of the Hakone Freepass.

However, looking at the prices it seems cheaper to get the Full Hakone Freepass (from Shinjuku) anyway?

Hakone Freepass fr Shinjuku = 5500y

or

Shinjuku to Hakone Yumoto + Odawara Hakone Free pass = 2020+3900 = 5920y

Am I correct?

If I travel from Shiodome from Shimbashi Station on the Tokaido line - how much would that cost? more or less?

Thanks

Shinjuku to Hakone Yumoto is 1150yen if you take any other train OTHER then the Romance Car.

Shimbashi to Odawara costs 1450 yen (again taking regular trains).

b, it was pretty well covered in this page how much each option costs, the romance car is the price you calculated instead of the regular fare which is 1150.
