Writing Japanese name in Hiragana

I have sewn a present for a japanese friend who has had a baby. I would like to embroider the baby's name, Rurii on the present. Would it be correct if I embroiderd the Hiragana symbols for "ru+ri+i"? Should they read from right to left instead "iL+ri+ru" or in a column from top to bottom, "ru ri i" ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Raesansan,
If you write the name in Japanese (hiragana), it should be written left to right (same as English) or vertically downward. There's nothing wrong with writing the name in hiragana, especially if you don't know the correct kanji, but I personally think that writing the name in Roman alphabet would actually be a nicer present.

I think perhaps you're right, I've decided to do the name with Roman letters. Thank-you, Raesansan
