Should I get a rail pass? 2008/11/25 19:34
Hi there i plan on spending two weeks in japan. mainly staying near Tokyo. but i also wana take a trip to Kyoto and maybe stay a few nights. The thing that will mainly decide if i get a JR pass is if I can use it on my Tokyo travels. Ill mainly be using the Yamanote line. do they accept the JR pass to Shibuya, Ikebukuro, etc.

The Japan Rail Pass pays off when you make major train trips. For example, it will pretty much pay off if you make a round trip between Tokyo and Kyoto within 7 days.

In Tokyo, you can use the pass on JR trains, such as the Yamanote Line, which are very useful to get around Tokyo, however, the savings will be only in the three digit range per day:
