Geisha makeup neck chest shoulders? 2008/12/10 07:44
Hello,
My name is Jason. I am getting a Geisha Tattoo. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a standard way a Geisha finishes her make up on her neck, chest and shoulders. I know there are 2 distinct ways they finish makeup on the back of the neck but I need reference for what they do in front.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

Hey Jason,

http://www.immortalgeisha.com/ is a good site containing information on Geiko and Maiko.

Jen, I already checked that out but that site doesn't explain how the makeup is finished in the front. Thank you though. Jason

You can't see the chest and shoulders because the outer kimono and the under-kimono clothes come close to the base of the neck. At any rate the tattoo artist will copy a print from a famous Japanese artist will he not? have a look at prints by Utamaro and Hiroshige. Have also a look at http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=portraits+of+geishas&...
(I Googled portraits of geishas)

My Geisha Tattoo is different. The geisha in kneeling down and has just been beheaded and the under kimono has fallen down so you see here chest. That is why I think it would be interesting/important to know how real geishas end the make-up on their neck and chest.

It's not super clear but gives you an idea of what it looks like.

you want a tattoo of a geisha without her head? with blood gushing from the neck, obviously, as you worry about accuracy. This sure will look really great when you remove your clothes in a gym, swimming pool etc. Hope your friends like it!
