Early Feb, need snowtire when driving in Hakone?

I'm now booking a rental car for my trip to Hakone and Izu in early Feb( Feb 10-12), but not sure whether I need snowtire or chains when driving in Hakone or not. Please advice.

Thank a million.

you will surely need snowtires or studless tires.
In February, an average minimum temperature in Hakone is -3.2 degrees Celsius.
The road surface will be freezing. Drive carefully and ENJOY:)

Yes,it's a must 2008/12/22 23:11
Definitely yes.Last winter the snow has been at ab 50cm for about a month.Icey roads are common here so even if you have snow tires drive carefully. On Hakone Shindo(the toll road to Odawara) you are allowed only if you have chains attached. Some roads also may be closed if it snows a lot.
Otherwise, Hakone can be a lot of fun.Enjoy your trip !
