Hodson in Katakana 2009/1/12 20:16
Hi, I was wondering how the last name Hodson would be translated into Katakana. It would be pronounced HOD-SON or HAWD-SUN. HOD rhymes with ODD, AWED, COD, SOD. SON rhymes with FUN, SUN, RUN.

Is this correct? ƒzƒcƒhƒƒ“

You have it almost right. The ƒc should be the small one though, so ƒzƒbƒhƒƒ“ rather than ƒzƒcƒhƒƒ“.

You can go with either ƒzƒbƒhƒƒ“ (ho-ddo-so-n) or you could skip the little ƒb and go with ƒzƒhƒƒ“ (ho-do-so-n).

From the way you describe the pronunciation, the "o" sound in "Hod" must be between "o" and "a," but to avoid getting it mixed up with the name Hudson, which is written as ƒnƒhƒƒ“ (ha-do-so-n), I would recommend going with either of the above, starting with "ho" rather than "ha."
