Seeking ryokan/bathhouse (Spirited Away) 2009/2/2 13:33
I know it exists..What's the name of the ancient multi-storey bathhouse/ryokan in the countryside..possibly in nagano-ken?

Apparently it was Miyazaki's inspiration for the bathhouse in Sen to Chihiro. Almost 2 years ago I searched their website but now forget the name/where it's located. Any help would be great - or even the names of any other ancient bathhouses/ryokan, please!

Not one specific place... 2009/2/2 15:58
I don't think there is *one* place that was used as THE model, but the following buildings/ryokan are a few of the ones said to have given him inspiration:

One in Nagano:

One in Yamagata:

In Gunma:

Dogo Onsen? 2009/2/3 15:55
According to Wikipedia, Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama was used to model the main building of the onsen in Spirited Away:

Having been to Dogo Onsen, I can confirm that they do look alike to some extend.
