planning a 2 day visit to Fuji area 2009/2/10 21:34
Hello,
I am staying in Kyoto for 1 week and wish to spend 2 days around the Fuji san area
What do you think about taking Shinkansen to Mishima and the direct bus to Kawaguchiko where I plan to book a room.
I plan the next day to do the full circle ( road 138/139?)
and walk around the best spots?

Is there a better way to visit this region?

Thank you from France

There are 2 ways to visit Fuji five lakes: by trains and by nightbus. If you have JR pass, it'd be better to take shinkansen to Mishima or Numazu/Gotemba, and then take a bus to Kawaguchiko.

"You can save a little bit money and possibly time by taking local JR trains from Mishima to Gotemba (one transfer of trains at Numazu along the way) and then board the Kawaguchiko bound Fujikyu bus at Gotemba Station (1470 Yen, 1 hour) instead of boarding the bus at Mishima Station."
