Go to Osaka castle. Maybe the museum of old buildings at Ryokuchi Koen. Eat in Namba or Umeda.

If one day means 8 hours or more, it is not impossible to visit at Nara and enjoy shopping at Osaka.
You can go to Nara within one hour (usually 40 minutes) from Osaka. Three UNESCO World Heritage sites, Todaiji, Kofukuji and Kasuga Taisha shrine are located close each other. You spent 3 hours at there, and come back to Osaka Namba by Kintetsu line.
And you can enjoy shopping at Minami (Namba).

If you have worry or have not enough time, most people will recommend Osaka castle and Minami.
