Suica verses NEX verses JR

we have 17 days in Japan arriving and departing through Narita. We are staying in the Kanagawa pref and Chiba Pref, one week each with 2 days in Hiroshima & would like to go to Nikko and Hakone as well. What would be the most economical way for us to get around during this time as I realise that once a JR pass is validated it runs consecutively meaning if we have a 7 day we have to pay one way to or from Narita. Are the Free Passes good value for Hakone etc?

Just checked on Hyperdia
Tokyo -Hiroshima 18250Y
Hiroshima - Narita Airport 20740Y
Tokyo - Nikko 5630Y
total 45620
14 day pass is only 45100 so you are ahead.
Possibility is Suica N'Ex package when you arrive, and you could activate JR Pass on Day 3....
Don't know about Free Passes..others may have better ideas though.

I recommend to use the 7-day pass to go to Hiroshima. Use a Nikko free pass for Nikko, a Hakone Free Pass for Hakone, and NEX&Suica for the rest.
