restaurant help 2009/4/8 20:26
A friend has suggested we must try this sushi restaurant-寿司大 in Tsukiji but he doesn't know exactly where it is as he was taken there. I tried googling and all in Japanese, could someone please help with precise walking directions including which subway exit etc.
Want to try okonomiyaki or mongya-hope I spelt this right near Shinagawa stn on Apr 11 morning say 11am brunch ? If nothing good in that area, how about Shimbashi-close to JR and Yurikamome stns say 11.30am.
Finally, could someone recommend a Hida beef restaurant in Central Tokyo (yakiniku NOT shabu shabu) for either lunch or dinner.
Thanks so much.

tsukiji sushi 2009/4/9 15:48
Going to 寿司大 by subway, take Hibiya-line to Tsukiji station. Then fter getting off the subway and comming up to ground level, you fill find Tsukiji Honganji Temple. It's a huge temple and you'll never miss it. Go across the Harumi Dori street and walk toward Kachidoki bridge which is opposite direction from Ginza. And 寿司大 is on corner of Tsukiji 6chome intersection. There is a police box right next to temple and they might direct you to the place. This is the best I can do and I'm sorry if I made you confused.

You don't know how helpful your answer is for a non-Japanese speaking tourist who has had lots of trouble before asking directions in Tokyo.
Do you remember how long it took to walk from subway to the Tsukiji 6chome intersection and which exit at Tsukiji stn ? Anyway, thanks again, as I now feel a lot more comfortable about actually being able to find the restaurant on my own, yipee !!! I guess I will wait til my next visit to experience okonomyaki and Hida beef.

I suppose you are talking about this place; there is a photo of the building :) Note that the white signboard says "Sushi dai" like this:

Here it is on google maps:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=35.664758,139.772444...

looks like its 2 or 3 blocks from the station, so no more than a 5-10 minute walk

Thanks again AK and also yllwsmrf. However, according to the google map, I should exit Tsukiji stn, walk to the major intersection with Mcdonalds on the corner, turn left and go straight down route 304 past ampm store until I get to the next intersection with the traffic lights. I presume this is the same as what AK said above ??
Is すし大 open on Saturdays and if so, is it really open from 10.30am to 5am the next morning--I hope I read that right from AK's link. I was thinking originally of going this Sunday but then my friend said it will be closed ??

just to clarify... 2009/4/9 20:10
I asked if すし大 is open on Saturdays because I read somewhere that restaurant closes if Tsukiji market is closed--on Saturdays ??

my bad 2009/4/10 17:22
I think AK and yllwsmrf are right about the information and it's not very far from the station. It is alongside of Harumidori street. My bad direction was too confusing.

If you are staying at hotel near Shinagawa or Shinbashi, best thing you could do for Okonomiyaki or Hidabeef is asking hotel clerk.

寿司大 IN Tsukiji Market 2009/4/14 15:30
すし大 is different from 寿司大.

The very famous Sushi-Dai is inside Tsukiji market,魚河岸横丁, not near Tsukiji market.

I don't feel like going to 寿司大 'cause I don't like to wait for half an hour in front of the restaurant, however if you want to visit very popular place, I recommend 寿司大, but never すし大.

Just got back, we went to すし大 this time and thought it was good, no doubt 寿司大 would be better still. Could you recommend another sushi restaurant in say Shinjuku, Shibuya, Kichijoji, etc for our next trip--just in another area apart from Tsukiji and in the same price bracket (ie: about yen 3500 to 4000 per person) ?

SL, thanks 2009/4/15 18:57
Never thought http://www.ninjaakasaka.com/ serves good food, always imagined it as a gimmicky eatery, how would you rate it food wise and cost wise as compared with http://www.eitarouzushi.com/ ?
Cost of sushi dinner at eitarozushi excluding drinks would be ??
