Jp Rail pass-worth it? 2009/5/15 04:31
Hey

Two of us are travelling to japan this June-July.

Plan to spend 20 days in Japan. Wondering which rail pass is worth to get?

Plan (places will remain, but considering moving when we go to tings to make JR pass work)

Nairta to toyko, spend 4 nights
Tokyo to Hiroshima, spend 3 nights
Hiroshima to Kyoto (do main day trips) spend 6 nights
Then kyoto to tokyo for rest, back to airport

Is it worth getting a rail pass? on budget, so I was thinking, one week pass to get down to Kansai then the one off back to Tokyo? Or would a two week one be best? I heard somewhere the 3 week pass doesnt make your money back

Any advice would be greatful (also if you think any places I should see)

Hi Oxford,
I checked Hyperdia, and minimally, all of the trips you listed will cost approximately 44260 Yen. A 21-day Rail Pass is 45100 Yen (which I will acutally buying for myself next motnh). The pass enables you to travel all over the country and will possibly cover your side trips, depending on where you go. Also, since you are going to Hiroshima, you may want to hop over to Miyajima, and the JR Pass covers the ferry.
