Abashiri to Kushiro Marshlands

My husband and I will b traveling to Hokkaido in Feb (5 – 19) next year.
During our trip we would like to visit Abashiri (see Drift Ice) and Kushiro Marshlands (see Dancing Canes). As both places require long train rides we are wondering whether we can drop by the Kushiro Marshlands while we are on the way back from Abashiri to Sapporo?
Meaning, from Abashiri will we pass by Kushiro?
If no, how can we go to Kushiro from Abashiri and back to Sapporo? How long does the journey takes form Kushiro – Abashiri?

Meaning, from Abashiri will we pass by Kushiro?Yes. Note also that it is rather time consuming to see the cranes without a car. I would recommend to take the train from Abashiri to Kushiro and then the Akan bound bus to the Akan International Crane Center and back, and then the train from Kushiro to Sapporo.
