can some one tell me exactly what the JR pass is? there were six or seven different colors like east west ect. i want to know if i can move from tokyo to osaka or kyoto. also, can i get around smaller areas with it? will it take me all around tokyo or is that a different system? can i get from tokyo to kamakura with it? how would i go about it? is it worth it if im only going to narita (chiba) to surf, then tokyo, kyoto, and possibly osaka

There is the Japan Rail Pass, which covers JR trains nationwide. It allows you to travel between Tokyo and Kyoto and Osaka.

And there are several regional passes for JR travel within a limited region of Japan.

They are all explained in detail here:

will it take me all around tokyo or is that a different system?

It is only valid on JR trains. That includes urban trains such as the JR Yamanote Line, but it does not include subways and other non-JR train companies:

can i get from tokyo to kamakura with it?

Yes, there are JR trains between these two cities.

is it worth it if im only going to narita
