japanese armor 2009/6/14 05:10
Where exactly should i go if i want to see ancient japanese armor (i meant the museum name and location)
I'll be staying in tokyo.

Moreover, do they let you wear the armor and take pictures? (no, not the real armor, i'm not that stupid) i meant like a tourist attraction souvenir photo service.

Can't say about Tokyo, but . . . 2009/6/14 08:31
In Fukushima Prefecture, Soma City, there is the Nakamura Shrine, that dresses tourists up in Edo Period clothes and armor. It wasn't cheap but I don't remember the price. Here's a pix:

The best armor display I've seen in Japan is at the Yutoku Inari Shrine Museum, in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. It seems that every suit of armor ever owned by the Kashima daimyo is on display. Kashima is SW of Saga City. It's super popular with the Japanese but I haven't seen many foreign tourists there.

Most castle museums have some swords and armor on display.

The National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo has a section with swords and armor.

Omishima 2009/6/14 13:30
There is the National Treasure Hall, a museum next to the Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima which is an island in the Seto Inland Sea. The museum has the largest collection of samurai weapons in Japan. You cannot take photographs inside the museum but they do sell a book with pictures of everything on display.

Too bad you won't be in Kyoto. In Gion there is an awesome photo studio that does Samurai photos. Many big stars have done them there. My photos came out great.
