Be aware that without permanent residency it will be difficult to obtain a housing loan from a Japanese bank. Also, without the proper visa you cannot stay in the country for long periods of time.

Contact agency! 2009/6/18 13:12
Forum is not a real estate agency! People posting here are trying to help you as much as possible, albeit prices for houses is information you are to ask the real estate agent!

If you wish to buy a house, do some work from your side as well. Try to google some agencies and contact them via mail or phone.

Good luck!

Yes, will definitely be requiring the services of a real estate agent. Check out Steve's experiences from the first thread listed above. He said he required a real estate agent and a translator to buy his property, and that it is all really simple if you have enough money.

Other than that though, it is very hard to give you any numbers without more specifics, especially what area of the country you are interested in.

Also, what do you mean by traditional house? Like traditional styling or traditional old?

Based on the traditional styled, modern houses I've seen I would guess that they would cost more than a respective modern house. If you mean traditional old, you can probably find ones in remote areas pretty cheaply. To repair them to living standards could be quite expensive however.

Here's a restoration project of a traditional farmhouse that you may be interested in:

This is just an example from the internet. The houses of the photos, from left to right, costs 8500000 yen, 6200000 yen and 3800000 yen. But keep in mind that what costs more is the maintanance.

Have you been to any of those places yet? They are quite different and all across Japan. The best thing to do will be to come over and visit each place. Look at the various neighborhoods and contact real estate agents if you can.

If you want traditional styled modern house you will likely have to purchase land and build it yourself. It will not be cheap.

Like people are saying, there are very few real estate agent here, if there is any, who can answer your questions. Google it, contact an agency......please do your homework.
