Summer Travel 2009/6/23 21:32
When is the best time to travel to Japan during the summer months? We will be going to Okinawa and surrounding islands as well as north to Tokyo.

Okinawa is sunniest from late June through August. The risk and intensity of typhoons is increasing towards August. It is always very hot and humid.

Tokyo has better weather from late July through August, but it is also hotter and more humid.

September is not cooler, but wetter in both places. In October, temperatures and humidity get a lot better, and Okinawa is quite sunny.

In the summer, it would be better to visit the northern part of Japan to escape the humid weather. Hokkaido, Tohoku, and the mountainous regions of Nagano would be good.
