Narita airport - Kyoto 2009/7/4 01:34
I'll go Kyoto from Narita airport directly. Plan to take Keisei Ltd Express to city then catch overnite bus to Kyoto. According to website, the boarding point is Tokyho Station Yaesu Centre Entrance infront of Bridge Stone Building. Does it mean Tokyo train station? Is it easy to locate the boarding point? Pls advise.

Yes, it is on the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station. From the station, you will have to walk about 300 meters away from the station to the Bridgestone Building. The building should be shown on the many public maps in the area.

Is it easy to locate the boarding point?

No, I would not call it easy. But it is not too difficult, either.

Here is a map centered on the Bridgestone Building:

English Signs At Tokyo Station 2009/7/4 14:34
If you do decide to go from Tokyo station there are signs in English which show you where the Yaesu exit is. They always point which way you need to go too.

Narita airport - Kyoto by highway bus 2009/7/5 00:39
I searched a highway bus reservation website in Japanese, but no evening highway bus was found which leaves Tokyo area before 20:00 and stops at Kyoto.
http://www.j-bus.co.jp/web/index.html
(Membership registration is needed to make reservation through this site.)
There are some ways for seat reservation, but I can not recommend any option through which reservation in English must be made smoothly.

A highway bus line seems to exist on which it costs 4,800 yen from Tokyo Station to Kyoto Station.

Flying Sneaker via Kyoto
(non-smoking car; all seats require reservation)
21:40 : Tokyo Station Yaesu-dori
05:50 : Kyoto Station Hachijo Entrance
This line is co-operated by Tohoku Kyuko Bus and Kintetsu Bus.
The seat reservation can be made from one month before the date of ride.

To take a bus from Tokyo Station, change from Keisei to JR at Nippori Station. Trains for Tokyo are scheduled to use Track 9 or 10.
Your train will arrive at Track 5 or 6 in Tokyo Station; go downstairs then advance in the direction of Yaesu side as Track number increases.

Presumably the direct highway bus line mentioned above is one between Choshi Sta. of JR (Chiba) and Namba Sta. of Nankai (Osaka).
It seems there is only one bus a day for each direction on this line.

Narita airport - Kyoto 2009/7/5 13:00
Tkss Omotenashi. I just noticed that from Narita airport, there is JR rapid service (Airport Narita) to Tokyo Station at the price of Yen 1,280 (90 mins ride). I believe it's a direct train to Tokyo Station, which is more convenient. However, the website only lists the N'EX time table http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/access/train/index.html. Where can I get the JR Rapid Service time table?

Tks.

Where can I get the JR Rapid Service time table?

There is about one train per hour. It usually is one of the results when you look up connections on the following timetable website:

Narita - Kyoto 2009/7/5 19:30
tks uji. The train route finder website really help alot.

Now I start booking overnite bus from Tokyo Station to Kyoto. I found that bus #132 marks ''ladies only''
http://travel.willer.co.jp/bus/pc/3/kusekiKensaku/kusek.... Is the whole bus is for ladies or only the back row seat? It mentions seats are located at the very back row of the bus. Don't know how comfortable it is if the space is not that big :-(

What about other bus type if without toilet, will there be any rest point along the highway?

Pls advise. Tks

"Compact" in the back row for ladies 2009/7/6 03:22
You must have copy-and-pasted the URL.... The page linked from your last post doesn't have information on the bus service #132.
This website seems to output a page in the language the viewer chose last. One URL may return pages in different languages.
- List of the services: Tokyo / Yokohama / Chiba / Utsunomiya to Osaka / Kyoto / Kobe / Shiga
http://travel.willer.co.jp/bus/pc/rosenKensaku/rosenKen...

: Is the whole bus is for ladies or only the back row seat?
I checked it on pages in Japanese:
this bus is not wholly for ladies only;
these seats are offered with restroom;
these seats may recline 110 degrees and are located in the very back row at spans of about 86 centimeters,
while as to the other seats the figures are 140 degrees and about 120 to 140 centimeters.
See "INFORMATION" on the pages for details on "N RELAX with restroom" and on "COMPACT N RELAX."

I presume that plural buses are operated with the same service number (#132) and each bus, in principle, has seats only of one specified type.
But, as to "N RELAX" they seem to be handling separately the seats in the very back row and the other seats.

RE: Tokyo Sta., Suica / PASMO 2009/7/6 03:24
JR trains from Narita Airport (both of N'EX and of Rapid) use platforms lying deep underground on the 5th basement floor, in the other Marunouchi side of Tokyo Sta.
You'd better estimate at least 30 minutes to get to the bus stop from the platform.
Your flight is scheduled to arrive at 15:10, so your Rapid Airport Narita train could be one leaving Narita Airport Sta. at 17:00 / 17:58 / 18:30, to surely get there in time for the bus #132.
If your flight uses Terminal 2, the nearest station is Airport Terminal 2 Sta.

Using a Suica card or a PASMO card, you can go without paper tickets to Tokyo Sta. Each one is available at a card vending machine. You can get the card at 2,000 yen, which includes 1,500 yen for e-money and 500 yen as deposit. (As to a PASMO card, 2,000 yen is one of price options.)
You touch the card to device on gate machines when entering and exiting JR / Keisei, then the fare is debited from e-money. (Suica and PASMO are compatible as to their fare collection systems.)
You can not pay with the card a charge for JR N'EX or Keisei Slyliner. As long as you take fare-only trains, you can get to Tokyo Sta. from Narita Airport without charging the card with cash, because the one-way fare doesn't exceed 1,500 yen in total.

Narita airport - Kyoto 2009/7/12 21:38
Hi all,

I'm scheduling my first day transportation upon arrival in Narita airport. I saw from http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/ that from Narita airport - Tokyo station, there's an option of "Narita Express No. 34" Fare is 1280, reserved 1460. Does it mean that if Ibuy ticket without reserved seat, I pay only Yen1280? And I can take any seat on the non-reserved car compartment?

I'll take overnite bus from Tokyo Station to Kyoto. Any bus company can recommend me? Do I need to reserve a seat online or normally they'll have available seat? They will have ticket selling booth at the bus pickup point?

Many tks.

lilychow,

Seat Reservation is mandatory to ride Narita Express. Check out other types of airport connection, if you prefer to travel cheaper.

RE: Narita Express 2009/7/13 00:13
You may miss Narita Express No. 34 (leaving Narita Airport Sta. at 16:15) unless your plane arrives at the airport very earlier than scheduled (15:10).
No one can tell you the earliest N'EX train you can surely take, not until you pass through immigration procedures.

Seats of N'EX trains all require reservation and they are all non-smoking seats.
Fare: 1,280 yen per adult; Charge: 1,460 to 1,860 yen per adult
Tickets are available at a JR East Travel Service Center.
- JR East Travel Service Center
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/travel_info/service_center/in...

To an adult holding a foreign nationality, Suica & N'EX package is available at 3,500 yen
(1,500 yen for N'EX including fare, 500 yen for deposit on the Suica card and 1,500 yen for Suica e-money.)
- Suica & N'EX
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/suica-nex/index.html

Narita Express is one of Ltd. Express services of JR-East.
Generally, for Express services and Ltd. Express services (including Shinkansen) of JR,
a service charge is required on the section of any ride, regardless of whether the seat requires reservation or not.
