Hi,
We will be vacationing in Tokyo this summer and would like some advice re. getting to Shinjuku Best Western Astina Hotel from Narita Airport. As we have two young children, we would like to minimize any train transfer to our hotel in Shinjuku If we the Narita Express, do we have to make a transfer at Tokyo? Should we take the limon. bus instead? Thank you.

If we the Narita Express, do we have to make a transfer at Tokyo? No, there are a lot of direct trains: http://jreast-shinkansen-reservation.eki-net.com/pc/eng...Should we take the limon. bus instead? The buses terminate at Shinjuku Station, so it makes little difference. I recommend the Narita Express because I think trains are more comfortable than buses. They are also less prone to delays. And there is the NEX&Suica package, which effectively makes the NEX considerably cheaper than the limousine bus, provided that you will be staying some time in the Tokyo or Osaka/Kyoto area during your stay: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_002.html

With two children, luggage, after arrival from a long international flight, the walk to the Best Western hotel might seem like a nightmare especially right after exiting Shinjuku Station.
In this case I'd recommend taking the short taxi ride from Shinjuku Station to the hotel, to minimize hassles.

JR-East and another company have stations of the same name in each of the two terminal buildings of the airport. Check which terminal your flight is going to use.
As to N'EX: Seats of N'EX trains require reservation and they are all non-smoking seats. A N'EX train may have two parts into which it is divided at Tokyo Sta. for different directions. Your car of N'EX will be destined to Shinjuku, Ikebukuro or Omiya, not to Ofuna.
As to JR fares and charges: If your young child solely utilizes one N'EX seat, purchase kids' rate tickets separately for him/her (Fare: 720 yen, Charge: 830 or 930 yen). - Rate Classification (until 31 March 2010) - - Babies [nyuuji] --- Less than 1 year in age - - Infants [youji] --- 1 - 6 in age, born on 2 April 2003 or later - - kids [kodomo] --- 6 - 12 in age, born between 2 April 1997 and 1 April 2003 One or two babies or infants accompanied by one adult / kid are free from JR fares and charges except when a baby or an infant solely utilizes one reservation seat or bed.
