Tohoku or Kyushu for Autumn? 2009/7/13 22:28
Hi! I'm planning a 2 weeks trip to Japan in late Oct, hoping to catch the autumn foliage. Appreciate advise on whether the Tohoku or Kyushu region is a better place to go for Autumn. Thanks!

Tohoku is best 2009/7/14 11:11
I think taht Tohoku is better than Kyusyu.
In Japan, mountains start to turn red, yellow from Hokkaido in October.
If you want to enjoy the autumn,it might to better to visit the north area in Japan.

I'd agree Tohoku. It appears to have more hot spots for leaf viewing than Kyushu.

Tohoku 2009/7/14 12:45
It's definitely Tohoku. Autumn foliage season for Tohoku normally starts mid to late Oct. For Kyushu, it doesn't start till early or even mid Nov.

Popular sites for autumn foliage in Tohoku include Yama-dera, Ginzan Onsen, Naruko Gorge, Nyuto Onsen, Kaunodate, Hirosaki, Oirase Stream and Towada-ko.
