best place in Japan for photography

My son's school holiday is from 5Sep to 16Oct. He loves photography. We plan to visit Japan. I think Autumn's beautiful but we are too early. Any suggestion of places we should/can visit for this purpose and timing? Thanks.

It depends what he likes to photograph. Tokyo is great for cityscapes, architecture and people.
