I am going to Japan for 2 weeks and have booked a car for the duration of my travel. I am trying to find maps of western Honshu, Kyoto, and other areas, but can't seem to find any with English and detailed. Anybody have any suggestions where I should look/order?

I have now driven in Japan on 6 trips and the Road Atlas Japan recommended by Uji above is still the best. It's mainly in English with some Japanese place names. You may try the library in your own country and take a look before ordering on-line. Note that 99% of rental cars in Japan have GPS but 99% of the GPS is in Japanese but still this should not be too much problem for non-Japanese speakers. Having said that, the Road Atlas Japan is still essential when planning your trip.
