Kiso Valley/Matsumoto - places to stay

I'm trying to find low cost places to stay in Kiso Valley and Matsumoto. I'm looking for under 5000 yen. I'll only be staying for one night at each of these places. Thank you.

We stayed at Toyoko Inn in Matsumoto and Magome-chaya. Magome is a bit more expensive (8000) but it's in an a fantastic setting!

Actually ,for a single it's Y5250 at Magome-chaya.

I recommend to overnight in a minshuku in the Kiso Valley. The cost is above your amount mentioned, but includes dinner and breakfast:

Stayed in Ryokan Nunoya for a couple of nights this spring. Very clean, nice rooms and the owner is friendly and helpful. Price per person was somewhere around 4500 yen/night, and the ryokan's in the nakamachi district with picturesque converted storehouses, etc.

No meals, but I think it'd be a different experience than Toyoko Inns...

Thanks for the help. I'll check this out when I get a chance to. I think I wouldn't mind upping my budget a little for these places, especially to try out the food service offered at the japanese style inns.
