Tokushima-Matsue-Kamakura trains? 2009/7/28 08:13
We are planning to travel this route in early Sept. by rail.
We would stop 2 nights in Okayama and 3 days in Matsue (train to Adachi art museum etc.)and then travel overnight Matsue to Kamakura (stay 2 nights there) . We would finish at Tokyo after this(outside 7 day period but ok.)
Is there a way to use a sleeper for the long trip Matsue- Kamakura?
Would a 7 day JR pass cover this economically and be worthwhile?

Yes, the Sunrise Izumo. It departs Matsue at 19:26 and arrives in Yokohama at 6:44, from where you can take the Yokosuka Line to Kamakura.

The nobi nobi carpet compartments on the Sunrise Izumo can be used for free with the Japan Rail Pass, but they are popular and might get booked out quickly. Other compartments on the train are not fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass and will cost a supplement of around 9500 yen or more:

Yes, especially if you manage to get reservations for the nobi nobi carpet compartments.
