This is quite challenging even for Tokyo residents, because it not a straightforward way and there are multiple bus terminals around the station. You should e heading for the "Keio Highway Bus Terminal", but some alternative names exist. The general location is shown on the following map:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3011.html

It is located on the West side of the station.

You will be arriving on platform 1/2 or 3/4. You have the choice of exiting through the South Exit (and walk above ground to the bus terminal) or through the West Exit (and walk below ground to the bus terminal). I recommend the underground approach, because there are more maps and signs along the way.

By the way, Shinjuku's largest Yodobashi Camera shop is located just next to the bus terminal.

we arive at shinjuku station at 7.43PM and the last bus leaves to kawaguchiko station at 8.10PM. that leaves us 25 min to get off the train, run and get our tickets and get on the bus.

does anyone think this is doable????

N'EX to highway bus stop in Shinjuku 2009/7/28 19:10
: we will be ariving at the shinjuku station from the narita express for narita airport.
: we arive at shinjuku station at 7.43PM

That's Narita Express No. 42 from Narita Airport, which is scheduled to use Track 6.
http://www.jreast-timetable.jp/0908/train/115/117121.ht...
Probably you can go down via an escalator to the concourse (on the 1st basement), pass by the first corner and a restroom, and turn left at the end to West Ticket Gate.

: that leaves us 25 min to get off the train, run and get our tickets and get on the bus.
: does anyone think this is doable????

It sounds hard to do so, if any of you is a first-timer or when you have heavy baggage.
If you have enough time at the airport (that depends on your flight and immigration procedures),
then maybe the following route is your option, by which you will arrive about 15 min. earlier at a track closer to West Ticket Gate.
Narita Express No. 40 (17:44 / 17:48 for Ofuna), transfer at Shinagawa to Yamanote Line's outer loop (Track 2), getting off at Track 15 of Shinjuku.

Only if you find your way quickly (if you know your way, it is possible in 5-10 minutes), and the bus is not booked out. As mentioned by omotenashi, I think there is some risk that you will miss it.

Tickets 10 min. before rides 2009/7/29 05:34
It seems that your highway bus tickets should be purchased by the time 10 min. before the departure, i.e. 8:00 pm.
Even when you take Shinagawa route, presumably no escalator or elevator is found between Track 15 and Central West Ticket Gate.
If the day falls on a weekday, you may encounter an evening rush.
And, there may be passengers in a row at the ticket counter, including those who hope to manage to reserve seats.

Maybe it's better if one of you goes to purchase your tickets (with no baggage items but a wallet) and the others carry your baggage. The purchaser is the one who has reserved your tickets, or if not yet, anyone who has reached 20 in age.
From JR Track 6, probably you can go down via an escalator to the concourse and turn left at the first corner towards Central West Ticket Gate.
From JR Track 15, you can go to Central West Ticket Gate via one of two stairs in the middle of the platform.

Keio: Guide map (in Japanese) of Shinjuku Stations of several operators
http://www.keio.co.jp/train/station/station_map/pdf/ksb...
On this map from the bottom, there are 16 JR tracks, 10 Odakyu tracks, and Keio station.
The writer of the article is saying he/she advanced under JR tracks, went down via a stair near Central West Ticket Gate, advanced under Odakyu tracks, went up and got out though a gate in Keio station building, and advanced towards the bus terminal.

Good luck!

we will be there august 3rd, monday.

thanks for the advice. if we do what you suggested, one go by the tickets, which are already reserved, and the other two head to the bus.

If it takes a little longer for me to get the tickets will the bus wait for me if my friends are there to tell them i am coming?

Note that payment needs to be made by 30 minutes before departure time.

Maybe a minute or two. But probably not more. There will be a lot of other people on the bus with their own schedules. The bus driver has to respect that.

shinagawa 2009/7/29 10:24
transfer at Shinagawa to Yamanote Line's outer loop (Track 2), getting off at Track 15 of Shinjuku.

when we got off the train at shinagawa, where do we get a ticket for the yamanote line to shinjuku?

RE: shinagawa 2009/7/29 12:32
: where do we get a ticket for the yamanote line to shinjuku

You don't have to buy it separately. At Shinagawa Sta., you will not exit JR-East though a gate but just change trains.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/stations/e788.html

At your station in the airport (Narita Airport Sta. / Airport Terminal 2 Sta.),
you can buy your tickets to Shinjuku Sta. when you make reservation for your N'EX seats.
(N'EX seats require reservation. The seats are all non-smoking seats.)
- JR East Travel Service Center
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/travel_info/service_center/in...
Another railroad company has stations of the same names, so it's best to find the Center to get your JR tickets.
Both the Centers must be still open when you visit there.

A foreign traveler (who has reached 12), showing his/her non-Japanese passport, can get a Suica & N'EX package,
which is composed of a very costless N'EX ticket and a Suica e-money card.
Even after you get off your N'EX train, you can get to Shinjuku Sta. with the costless tickets.
(A Suica card can be refunded at 210 yen fee even if its e-money is not used up).

shinagawa 2009/7/30 04:15
which track will we be on when we get off the NEX from narita at shinagawa station?
by chowdig rate this post as useful

Shinagawa and Shinjuku 2009/7/30 08:16
: which track will we be on when we get off the NEX from narita at shinagawa station?

Presumably on Track 14.
(The guide map of Shinagawa Sta. says that "Narita Express" uses Tracks 13 and 14,
and that Track 13 is used by trains for Tokyo, the other direction).
The Narita Express No.40 (for Ofuna) comes into Shinagawa from the right on the guide map.

Yamanote Line trains come one after another, every few minutes.
Taking a train on its outer loop (at Track 2 in Shinagawa; the next station is Osaki),
you will get to Shinjuku in about 20 minutes at Track 15.

When you become free to travel early in the airport, ask an attendant at Service Center whether you can choose an earlier N'EX train which stops at Shinjuku;
if you can, you will avoid possible crowds on Yamanote Line and have enough time in Shinjuku.

transfer 2009/7/30 13:05
say i have the suica card and i get off the train at shinigawa and head to track 2 for the yamanote line. what is procedures to get to track 2?

do i have to swipe the suica card somewhere or can i freely walk over to track 2, go down the stairs, and get on the train?
by chowdig rate this post as useful

RE: transfer 2009/7/30 17:06
When a Suica & N'EX package is available, use its costless N'EX ticket to Shinjuku, not a Suica card.
- Regular tickets: 3,310 yen = 1,450 yen fare for the route + 1,860 yen charge for N'EX;
- Costless N'EX ticket: 1,500 yen.

: can i freely walk over to track 2, go down the stairs, and get on the train?

Yes. Once you enter Suica area with your Suica card, you have to exit it with the same card, but there is no route check at a transfer point which is within Suica area.
Under special rules, a fare within Suica area depends on the cheapest route.
If you use a Suica card or buy a fare ticket for a ride between your airport station and Shinjuku, the one-way adult fare is 1,450 yen, regardless of routes.

jr pass 2009/8/2 00:41
i have a jr pass. should i use it for going from narita to shinigawa and then transfering to the yamanotes line to shinjuku?

or just purchase the nex suica package and redeem my jr pass later?
by chowdig rate this post as useful

RE: jr pass 2009/8/2 04:32
Places are limited for redeeming a JR Pass. In your case, you will have a chance at JR East Travel Service Center in the airport.

In principle, a JR Pass covers charges for Narita Express. But, it depends on your itinerary whether you'd better activate your JR Pass soon or later.
For example, if all the days for this travel in Japan can be within the validity term of your Pass (7 days / 14 days / 21 days), there will be no need for purchasing a Suica & N'EX. If you have a 7-day Pass and come back to Narita from Osaka 7 days later, then the regular JR cost for Day 8 will become much higher than that for Day 1, so it'll be economical to choose a Suica & N'EX on Day 1 and to make the Day 8 covered by your Pass.

jr pass 2009/8/2 04:36
ok. its better for me to not redeem it right away then.

can we redeem the jr pass at kawaguchiko station after we come down from mt fuji?
by chowdig rate this post as useful

RE: JR Pass: Redeem then activate 2009/8/2 08:49
The date when you activate (= start using) your JR Pass is flexible within one month, but you have to specify the activation date to obtain your JR Pass by redeeming your Exchange Order.
I think you'd better obtain your JR Pass at your station in the airport, i.e. at JR East Travel Service Center. It may be not easy to find an exchange point in another large station.
Print out this application form if possible and make it prepared to get your JR Pass.

non-JR station 2009/8/2 08:53
Kawaguchiko station is not a JR station (that line is operated by a different company, Fuji Kyuukou), so you won't be able to validate the JR pass at Kawaguchiko station and the pass is not valid until you change to the JR line at Otsuki station.
