is there a way to access my mobile inbox (emails, text messages) online from a home computer? I have a name@ezweb.ne.jp address if that matters.

Such a service is available only with docomo, to my knowledge.
au (which is your carrier) and softbank do not offer it yet.

Nope, gmail doesn't allow you to access mobile email accounts either. This is only an option if you are using gmail as your primary mail account on say an iphone or other smartphone. But for regular softbank, au, etc. phones you are out of luck.
