Best books about Japanese culture 2009/11/15 01:23
Six days and counting until the flight to Tokyo!

In preparation for the trip, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good paperback book for the flight. Not necessarily "Culture Shock: Japan", but a fun, fiction or non-fiction book to get me in the spirit of Japan.

The guidebook, Gateway to Japan, is fascinating. Full of history, culture, and lore, plus some practical info.

Read these exciting pages on the unique Japan culture. This is no fiction, but if you print it and read it on the flight I assure you you'll laugh, you'll cry, and won't be able to take it out of your hands.
And most important - you'll arrive there super-prepared for the culture shock!
Enjoy!

If you have an interest in baseball, "You Gatta Have Wa," might be good. If organized crime is more your thing, "Tokyo Underworld," might be interesting. Both written by Robert Whiting. You can check reviews on Amazon.com
