Moving to Sasebo 2009/12/4 02:28
Does anyone experience difficulties bringing a little dog into sasebo? We received orders to Sasebo. I am very nervous. I am so attached to my dog.
I saw some posting, but they are not current ones. I am not sure if it is better and smoothly at the present time to bring her into sasebo. Can anyone help? How about housing? I heard about quarantee of 180 days? Is this true? Do they actually hold them for 180days? Thank you.

If you are in U.S. (excluding Hawaii) it may be difficult. Here is official website about quarantine system of Japan.

Unfortunately, U.S. excluding Hawaii is not designated region. (But I have not imported dogs ever. Please confirm.)

Ifm a dog lover too. I'm regretful if my answer makes you sad.

dog into Sasebo 2009/12/5 10:23
If you have orders to Sasebo I assume you are a military family; the first thing I would do would be to look at the Sasebo navy base website, and get in touch with their veterinary services. http://www.cnic.navy.mil/Sasebo/index.htm
pet info:

note that that page has a link to the Army veterinary services website, which has excellent info on requirements for military to bring pets. You need to really pay attention to the timelines and do every step in order; if you accomplish everything on time you can bring your pet without quarantine.
As for base housing, look at the Sasebo info for that as well; get in touch with the housing office and see what restrictions are in place for pets. People do rent houses out in town and you could find one that allows your dog, if you are patient and work at it.
