Japanese cooking classes in London, UK? 2004/8/20 21:23
Hi,

I have looked everywhere for a cooking class in London, UK but can't find anything. I'm interested in japanese cooking not just just making sushi. Do you know of any?

Cooking lessons in UK 2005/2/16 18:18
There is a large Japanese comunity around Ealing Common and West Acton. Stick a note up in one of the Japanese shops there or at the notice board in the Japan Centre at Piccadilly.
I think you'll get a lot more responses if you offer to give them English speaking practice lessons in return.

You can try it also from Oriental City ( N 10) or Rice-wine shop (in Soho). A Japanese woman (housewife) writes on English foods regularly, so maybe she knows something. Contact London News Digest or Journey (weekly Japanese newspapers).

Re: Oriental City 2005/2/17 17:39
After the Japanese bookshop closed and now that the Japanese pottery/crockery shop closed recently, there is IMO little reason left to visit the Oriental City.
The Atariya sashimi-shop inside the supermarket is very good, but we have their main shop just up the road in West Acton and for Japanese stuff, you can find better supermarkets closer to the centre of London like TK Trading in Park Royal.
I feel bad that these great shops have closed in the Oriental City but they have been struggling ever since they opened...

Japanese Cookery 2007/4/17 02:45
Toku restaurant (aka Japan Centre) runs Japanese cookery courses, not only sushi but Tempura, Teriyaki, Miso-soup, Gyoza-dumprings,and Okonomi-yaki, etc. You can make a request what you want to learn.
It's bit complicated, so better to check the web site.

Hands On Japanese Cookery Courses 2007/5/10 04:15
Since I started to teach the courses in 2004 in London (please see above, I posted a reply on here in 2005) there has been a huge number of enquiries for my courses - Thanks to all the students who took part in my courses, I'm sure you'll miss tucking into the freshly cooked japanese food with a glass of wine after every class. Adding to the original Beginner's & Advanced Courses, I now run a Gourmet Course as well. And of course, the popular Sushi & Sashimi Class. Please see the website for the details on : www.hashicooking.co.uk

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Japan Centre sushi course 2007/8/29 20:17
I've tried the Japan Centre Maki Sushi course and it is really good! It's taught by the chefs from their restuarant and you get a free starter kit with stuff like the roll mat, rice, vinegar etc when you leave. I had to wait a month to get on it cos it books up, must be a sign it's good?
