I'm going to Kakunodate's Samurai district by the end of Feb 2013. I saw that most of residences are closed during winter. So is it worth to visit there during the mentioned period?

We went that time of year and even though only two were open, it was worthwhile. We actually only had time for Aoyagi, as it's so extensive. We didn't see the other one as we had to get back to the train station so we could ride the scenic train to Takanosu (beautiful snowy scenery!). Nonetheless, we felt we'd seen the best on offer.
