first time to attend Japanese wedding 2012/10/15 10:10
Hiii,
I am a foreigner and my colleague friend has invited me for his marriage sometime in Nov.

After receiving the invitation, I directly told him, I definitely going to attend the wedding.

I heard from some of my friends that it is custom to pay money for weddings and amount is quite huge for colleague somewhere around ~50K Yen.
Is it true?
I was planning to buy some good gift initially.
Can I ask him directly, should I get a gift or he want me to pay money?

Also, do I have to wear proper suit for the wedding?

Why dont we have these kind of custom @our place.

Please help !!!
Thank you,
VJ

Thanks(SEA Monster :) ) !!!
This is helpful.
damn, why do they have this even-odd number custom again.
Now 10K would look too small...n for 30K, I have to skip all the parties for a month or two.

Thank you,
VJK

That (30K) sounds good. It may seem like a lot of money, but see this thread (info by yllwsmrf), and the amount will seem justified.

Have fun!
