Under 2), when you say "birds," do you mean chicken? Maybe you are talking about yakitori (grilled chicken) restaurant? The word "birds" (and its translation) is really generally "birds," including any species of birds, and ... can sound a bit strange, so it would be more precise to say "chicken" if you mean that :) Just wanted to be sure.

The difference between ''onegaishimasu'' and
''kudasai'' is simple.
''Onegaishimasu'' is a phrase that is used when
you ask somebody a favor, and it is equivalentto a word ''please''in English.
''Kudasai'' is a polite form of ''kure'' and
it means ''please give me(her, him, them)
something.

As for the birds you mentioned, I think
it is a kind of famous Japanese sweets called
''Hiyoko''. Or whatever. I don't care.

Because in English they are all "noodles" but in Japanese they have different names.

As frog1954 said, also I can't imagine the food that with bean paste in it but not as sweet.
But I think they can understand that's called 鳥(the bird).

I modified several sentences from ajapaneseboy's post earlier. The only "bird-shaped" sweets I can think of is that "Hiyoko" (chick-shaped ones), but it may be different, so I would not use that brand name.

The "birds" come from the shopping road from Kaminarimon to Senso-ji. I believe the road is called Nakamise-dōri.

This is in Asakusa/Tokyo.

And as polite Japanese letter, I add one line that says
"We want to say a word about my gratitude".

And if "the birds" is famous 人形焼(ningyo-yaki; shaped cakes), I think お菓子(cakes) is better.
So I translated 鳥形のお菓子(birds-saped cakes) and お菓子(cakes) for "the birds".

And I think it's better to write translated Japanese with your original English.
Anyway, they will be deeply moved when they read your postcard.

So I can recommend to write noticeably お礼状 or お礼 as title to show them when you give it.
It means "Letter of thanks" or "Thanks".
