I apologize for not keeping everyone updated on here. I haven't used this site in a long time.
I want to mention that everything did work out fine and I didn't need to return to the US to get the Spouse of Japanese National Visa.
I am actually on a 3 year Spouse of Japanese National Visa now.

@blondesurfboy I just read the thread and was overjoyed at reaching the conclusion. Please tell what was required! I'm about to find myself in a similar boat, but luckily nobody's sick who needs my care.
